For my second installment of Flashback Friday Food, I want to write about the BANK Restaurant. My sister and my brother-in-law bought a dinner voucher to the BANK restaurant as a birthday gift two years ago. Honestly speaking, I hadn’t heard about the restaurant before this and the weird thing is, it is located in the heart of downtown Minneapolis. Now I am not bragging but I kind of know all the restaurants in downtown Minneapolis. I may not have dined but I have definitely seen/heard about the establishment. But this was different. I have never heard of it and the funny thing is, I have passed by this place couple of times. Never in my wildest thought, I guessed it was a restaurant. I have to say it is located in a rather unusual location.
As the name suggests, the restaurant used to be an actual bank. From the interior it looks like they moved few furnishing but kept some structures of the actual bank. The space itself is very pretty and very open and big. The restaurant was quite empty. There were probably 2-3 parties and few people at the bar when we arrived which made the place even more emptier given the size of this place.
We were seated immediately but our server never showed up. The problem was no one saw us. It could also be that they forgot about us. I think it was the second one judging by the expression on our hostess’ face when she found out about us. It was at least 20 minutes before someone came. We actually walked to ask for our server.
Food wise, everything was mediocre. Nothing struck out as wow. I remember the portion being very big though. We had a hard time finishing it. In my opinion, the calamari that came as an appetizer just alone could be served as a meal.
Overall the space was beautiful. Very classic interior, at times giving you that retro vibe. Food was okay. I liked the presentation side more than the actual food itself. Service was fine as well except for the small confusion at the beginning. I haven’t been to this restaurant since then and not sure if anything has changed. What are your thoughts? Have you been to BANK Restaurant?
