Vanilla Buttercream Cake with Marzipan Roses

I haven’t baked a proper cake for a while now. The last time I baked a proper cake with frosting was probably couple of years ago. Ananta celebrated his birthday last week and for his birthday the only thing he asked was a homemade cake. This was a perfect opportunity to get back into baking. I scoured the web to find an easy, small yet good looking cake. Instagram comes in really handy to do things like these. I guess it is because of the abundance of *appealing* visual content. I know many things on Instagram are pretty far from reality. But there are many things that are credible as well. While I was looking for cake recipes, I came across Molly Yeh’s Instagram. Just looking at her Instagram alone makes me want to be baker. In addition to it, her recipes are very easy to follow and pretty simple. And I have to say after baking this cake, they are very delicious as well. After spending hours, I decided to bake Vanilla Buttercream Cake with Marzipan Succulent.

The cake turned out amazingly good.  I did add few of my own twists to it. For example, I added some mascarpone cheese to the frosting to add between the cakes. I also added a bit of peach flavoring to both cake batter as well as the frosting. And finally because I failed miserably at making succulents, I made roses. The marzipan roses may look very complicated and intricate but it was the easiest cake decorations I have ever made in my life! I am going to leave the instructions to make the roses for another blog as I don’t have marzipan right now.

I must say I am very proud of my cake. I even had few guests going for second servings **quietly does the happy dance** It is also hands down one of the easiest cakes I have ever baked!

Here is the link  to Molly’s recipe.
